VOCAL is pleased that Governor Youngkin's Administration has chosen to redesign Virginia's Behavioral Health System with investments that will serve those who are living with mental health challenges. However, VOCAL is concerned that the Administration's language involving acts of violence causes stigma and discrimination among those living with mental health challenges. Individuals with lived experience of behavioral health challenges are far more likely to be the victims of violence than to be the perpetrator. VOCAL looks forward to working with the Youngkin Administration to ensure that the Behavioral Health System serves all Virginians in need of services and that there are multiple on-ramps to recovery and sustained resources to help those with lived experience maintain their recovery. There will be more information next week as VOCAL takes the time to review more details of the Governor's plan.o
